Galatasaray have revealed that Premier League outfit Chelsea made an offer for their star midfielder Wesley Sneijder in the summer. Jose Mourinho returned to Chelsea last summer and he has been looking at the possibility of being reunited with Sneijder since then.
Mourinho enjoyed a great relationship with the Dutch midfielder during his time at Inter Milan. After signing the former Real Madrid playmaker for just £ 13 million, Mourinho went on to make him the central figure in the treble winning team of 2010.Sneijder came close to winning the FIFA Ballon d’Or award in the subsequent year.
Even though, he has never been the same player since then, due to a succession of injuries and moves to the likes of Galatasaray, it is thought that Mourinho still considersSneijder as a top player.
Manchester United were reportedly interested in him after the arrival of Louis Van Gaal, who also has great relationship with the Dutchman. However, it was Chelsea, and not United, who made the offer forSneijder in the summer according to the club’s president Duygun Yarsuvat. He says that Chelsea, who finished with no major titles last season, were keen to reinvigorate the midfield after the departure of Frank Lampard.
The blues eventually signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona for just under £ 30 million. The former Arsenal man has been brilliant since his return to the Premier League."Chelsea made an offer for Wesley Sneijder at the start of the season. He could have been beside Jose Mourinho, that is the only club he would have joined. But he's happy at Galatasaray," saidYarsuvat. After struggling with form in the early part of the campaign, Galatasaray have been rejuvenated after the recent managerial change. They recently went top of the table after a 3-2 win over Sivasspor.
