New Swansea signing Wilfried Bony has said that he wants to become the Didier Drogba for Swansea. The Ivory Coast international was recently signed for a club record transfer fee of £ 12 million after weeks of negotiations with Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem and has been made on of the favourites to win the Golden Boot this season on the online betting sites.
Prior to the move to Swansea, Bony has been linked with the likes of West Ham and Chelsea. The striker was hugely influential for Vitesse Arnhem last season as he helped them almost win the league ahead of the likes of Ajax and Feyenoord. He scored 31 goals in just 30 matches for the club.
The Ivory Coast international is very similar to Didier Drogba when it comes to his style of play, and he has revealed that the former Chelsea star played a major role in convincing him to move to Swansea. Drogba is one of the best strikers to have graced the Premier league.
During his eight years at Chelsea, he scored 157 goals for the club. Drogba has been a huge inspiration for many African players and Bony seems to be another one of them. The 24-year-old becomes the seventh signing for Swansea, who finished ninth in the league last season.
Manager Michael Laudrup recently said that it would be not feasible for the club to improve on this season without investing in the squad.
“Didier is a big inspiration for me. He had a big career and scored a lot of goals in the Premier League – and I hope to do the same or more. We will see. But I have to listen to his advice and try to do what I can and give my best and I hope everything will be OK for me and for Swansea. I have spoken to Didier and he said félicitations (congratulations) and he told me he was proud of me," said Bony.
