Galatasaray manager Hamza Hamzaoglu has been a man under pressure for quite a while.
This team’s inconsistent form has seen them drop well below a title challenging position. Much was expected from the team when they signed the likes of Lukas Podolski in the summer. However, the presence of star names has been of little help to the former champions. One of the biggest names in Turkish football, Galatasaray are always under pressure to challenge for the title. Now that it has gone horribly wrong this season, .
There has been a huge respite forHamzaoglu after his team managed a narrow 1-0 win over archrivals Trabzonspor. This victory allowed the manager to sarcastically hit back at his critics. He has sarcastically stated that he remains a bad manager despite this victory. He has recalled the calls for his exit that came just hours after the team’s 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.Hamzaoglu came to the club only in November of last season. He was an interim appointment to replace Cesare Prandelli.Hamzaoglu managed to overcome a disappointing start under Prandelli to lead the club to a league title and also domestic cup success.
Even after this victory, Galatasaray remain far away from the top places. The club are languishing eighth in the table and already five points behind Fenerbahce. “Everyone would apparently be very happy if I left, however I am here and I will not run away from any challenge. Nothing has changed. I am still a bad coach. Apparently, this team won three cups without a coach,” said the manager after the win over Trabzonspor. Galatasaray have managed only two league victories in the last five matches and they face Gaziantepspor in the next game.
